Program Description:
The Orange County Department of Education, with funding from the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing, is offering a Paraprofessional Teacher Training Program to assist classroom instructional aides in earning multiple subject, single subject, or education specialist teaching credentials.

The California Department of Education believes strongly in the value of paraprofessionals and supports the establishment of meaningful paraprofessional career ladders in every district, which lead to both enhanced responsibilities for paraprofessionals and teacher certification. The program provides assistance to pay for tuition, books, and fees for paraprofessionals, who are completing college and university coursework, to obtain their teaching credentials.

Requirements:
  1. Completion of 30 college units with an entry G.P.A. of 2.5.


  2. Employment as an instructional aide in one of the nine participating districts


  3. Recommended by the employing district: Capistrano Unified School District, Cypress School District, Magnolia School District, Orange County Department of Education, Orange Unified School District, Saddleback Valley Unified School District, Santa Ana Unified School District, Newport Mesa Unified School District, and Buena Park School District.


  4. Presentation of three letters of recommendation detailing accomplishments and projected teacher success.


  5. Maintenance of a 2.75 G.P.A. and completion a minimum of six units per semester toward a degree or credential.



  6. Agreement to teach in district where you currently work for the number of years it takes to complete the program.

  7. Enrollment in one of these colleges/universities: Santa Ana College, Saddleback College, California State University/Fullerton, Cypress College, Santiago Canyon College.

PTTP Cohort:

  1. Articulation with each Institution of Higher Education teacher counseling center.


  2. Monitoring of grades, progress and teacher track plan in order to move participant expediently toward credential.


  3. Assistance with payment of tuition, books and fees through the completion of the credential program.


  4. Assistance in meeting subject matter exam requirements (CSET preparation and payment of testing fees).


  5. Articulation with each district coordinator to ensure student success.


  6. Articulation with the District-Intern Program regarding candidates who receive teaching jobs prior to credential completion.
